Quick answer
Phuket International Airport (HKT) is at the north end of the island, about 40 to 45 km from Patong. Install a Thailand eSIM before you fly so you can book Grab, check the Smart Bus, or message your hotel as soon as you land.
Why do I want data before leaving Phuket Airport?
The ride from the airport to the west-coast beaches is long, and prices differ a lot between the bus, the taxi counters, and the ride-hailing apps. With data you can compare Grab or Bolt against the fixed-price counter, and share your live location with the hotel.
How do I get from Phuket Airport to Patong, Kata, or Karon?
The Phuket Smart Bus charges a flat 100 baht to any stop and takes about 1 hour 20 minutes to Patong, longer to Karon and Kata. Departures run from about 08:15 to 23:30, and you can pay by contactless card, Thai QR, or cash.
The airport limousine counter lists fixed prices per car, about 800 baht to Patong and 1,000 baht to Kata. Metered taxis add a 100 baht airport surcharge. Grab and Bolt work in Phuket; when app prices surge, the fixed counter can be cheaper.
Can I use the eSIM on boat trips from Phuket?
Yes, near the coast and on the islands. Signal can drop in open water between islands, as with any mobile network. Download your boarding passes and tour details before you leave the pier.
